Sadness and anxiety is how adolescent young men and parents alike tell researchers they feel about how to live together in a productive and meaningful way. Parents become confused by the dramatic shift in their son's behavior, often after a normal, happy childhood. Parent's best intentions and efforts do not give their sons opportunities to honor their biological urge to go out into the world and resolve life's challenges. The additional frustration of having few culturally sanctioned outlets to freely express their energy causes young men to increasingly withdraw and/or act-out.

In response to their sons and their sons friends who were expressing themselves without self-respect and confidence, concerned families from the San Francisco Bay Area created the Young Men's Ultimate Weekend (YMUW) in 2000. The community came together to give young men what they needed to be at peace with themselves and the world around them.

Twenty two Weekends and six years later, this modern rites of passage initiation has successfully guided over 1000 young men, ages 13-20, to acquire the leadership skills necessary for a responsible adulthood. The YMUW graduates leave their initiation knowing their contributing role to living in respectful households and resourceful communities.

Our programs for young men include:

The Young Men's Ultimate Weekend will take place twice in 2007 and 2008 in the South Bay (San Jose region) and North Bay (Marin/Sonoma region). The Young Men's Ultimate Team is an ongoing weekly group mentoring program and the Young Men's Ultimate Coaching sessions are one - on - one mentoring meetings. Our newest program, the Young Men's Ultimate Addiction Program helps young men who have problems with drugs, alcohol, video/computer, etc.

The Ultimate Parenting Coaching sessions are for parents who want to learn how to optimize their influence and authority with their children. The Ultimate Guide to Parenting and Mentoring Workshops teaches parents and family organizations how to effectively guide adolescent young men to have respectful behaviors and resourceful relationships. The Ultimate On-Site Trainings are for teachers, counselors, mentors, or parents who want to apply the principles and practices of our RIGHT Way™ method in their families or organizations.
